OK, I made my profile on My Space, but it kept giving me error messages when I tried to post to my blog. Anyhow, it didn't happen and I'm just too tired to try to find out what the problem is. Couldn't get it to work on Mozilla or Internet Explorer. Oh well, don't think this will be of any more interest to me than online gaming was.

I was already a user of Facebook so this "Thing" was pretty easy. I originally joined Facebook because of a work request but have quickly friended former friends from the past. It is a nice way to stay connected.

http://www.facebook.com/editnote.php?draft¬e_id=31073258450#/profile.php?id=10033182&ref=nameThat's my profile on Facebook. I already had a profile so for me this exercise was more about exploring the capabilities of Facebook and it's applications. I signed up for the Visual Bookshelf and linked my Goodreads account to my Facebook account. I have had a Facebook since the time when you had to be a student to subscribe. I also have a myspace and have had that just as long. My myspace is a little more private so I declined to share that one. I think the greatest thing about social networking sites is being able to keep in touch with people you rarely see. Do you find this valuable? |

This was the best "Thing" yet. I always thought it was a silly idea having a myspace page at my age, but this was alot of fun! I can see why my teenagers spend so much time on it. Its very addictive. I too joined Facebook because my aunt back in Indiana insisted that I join and be her friend. I was amazed at all of the people that I know that are in Facebook.

I already had a Facebook account, so I just added a note to complete my "assignment." Note: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?saved=&suggest=¬e_id=31218333982 My Profile: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=778512479&ref=profile Right now I don't use Facebook that much, but I can see some potential as we create a Facebook account for Southern Arizona Roadrunners (SAR). It may be a good way to reach runners who are not members of SAR Do you find this valuable? |

I did it...sort of. I already have MySpace and Facebook account, although I haven't checked MySpace in a long time. I'm finding Facebook useful for keeping in touch with friends and family (my siblings and cousins are all on here). I also have colleagues on here too so there is that blending of personal and professional. Have to be careful about that on social networkin sites.I think I will hold off on adding Pima County Public Library as a friend..no offense! I like how the discovery exercise about this Thing says "Denying is ok. Even if it feels sort of mean." Do you find this valuable? |

I've had Myspace for about 4 or 5 years now and Facebook since I started college. I like Facebook a lot more these days- fewer creepers! It's a great way to keep in touch with friends back East. I don't think I'd be able to keep up with people so well without it.

I already have a facebook, so that was exciting. I couldn't find a link for applications but I posted a note using a different link. I can put my link but I don't know if it would work. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=507959237&ref=name

I don't know if this is the right link for my Facebook profile, but here it is: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=1622764058&ref=profileI wrote a note too. I also have a MySpace which I have had for quite awhile at www.myspace.com/scegan (and an occasionally-updated blog). It's set to friends only though. Do you find this valuable? |

I said as much in my note on Facebook, but I have been hearing about how social networks on the web are a great networking tool. The museum where I work has been marketing to a different audience for some time now using MySpace pages. Interestingly enough, these pages are blocked at our work computers. (Some social stigma attached to MySpace pages maybe?) I have purchased library materials directly from artists by checking out their MySpace page. Yet for some reason, I decided to set up a Facebook page. I guess in part because I heard that Facebook caters to a more professional crowd than MySpace. In the description for exercise 8, it sounded as though most of the differences were in technology offered not perceived audience. Does anyone else have thoughts on the pros and cons of joining each of the two networks? The link to my note is http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=43935369151. "Does anyone else have thoughts on the pros and cons of joining each of the two networks?I think it will depend on your reasons for joining. If you're joining for personal reasons, you might want to join the network where your friends and family are. If you're joining for professional reasons, you will probably be thinking of audience. Our MySpace page reaches out to teens mainly, and our Facebook page reaches out to adults. There are a lot of employers who block these networks for a variety of reasons. They may not want you to get on them for fun during work. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
