Yes, plieberenz and kdavey, all of us on the development team like Facebook better but we knew that MySpace was more popular with our patrons so that was what we ended up going with. (Social Networking Sites) Sep 19 2008, 8:00 PM EDT I had a MySpace page a few years ago, spent a lot of time on it, "pimped" it to my heart's content, eventually got bored, and took it down. I created an account for this exercise, but didn't do anything fun with it. I did track down my two children and am pleased to report that we won't be having any serious talks this evening. I can see how addictive it can be setting up the page, adding all the cool features, etc. You can spend hours on end jazzing it up the way you want it. It's amazing how honest and open you can be about yourself; on the other hand, you can be as deceptive as you want, too. I basically made up a person! paris2006	9. RE: I did it! (Social Networking Sites) Sep 30 2008, 10:00 PM EDT I made a basic MySpace page but to be honest I found it "clunky". After making a goodreads page and an iGoogle page, I don't find MySpace that user friendly. For example, uploading my profile picture after I had made my account was confusing. The advertizing is a bit much for me. I can see why teens like it so much....one could spend hours on it. Post reply Do you find this valuable?

If you use Firefox you can use the AdBlock extension to block some of the ads. I spend more time on Facebook nowadays as it has a much cleaner interface and fewer obnoxious ads, and I've noticed that many others are migrating over to Facebook. However, teens still seem to be more into MySpace, especially because they can customize their profiles. Post reply Do you find this valuable?

mmaclei	13. RE: I did it! (Social Networking Sites) Oct 5 2008, 12:04 AM EDT Okay, I put myself on FaceBook. Not much into the social networking thing. (I'm a little old fashioned, I guess). But the exercise was easy to do, and some of my old high school and college classmates popped up without me even doing anything, so I guess it is useful if you want it to be. I invited Pima County Public Lib and received a reply from Jen the next day. I will continue to explore MySpace in the coming days. It seems I have more people in my yahoo contact list in Facebook than in MySpace. I seem to be having some trouble uploading pictures from my computer to Facebook and I wasn't able to get the bookshelf program to work yet either. When I tried to add the Pima County My Space address that I had it did not work. I know that my granddaughter uses MySpace but I didn't know enough of her information to find out all that she does. Although I learned quite a bit, I am sure she could teach me even more. That's the way it is with the younger generation. It is addictive but also keeps me in touch with lots of folks, especially my kids. Since they are college age i know what is going on with them and they know about me too! I have actually gotten some of my luddite relatives to get on too just to keep in touch more frequently. It doesn't have to be long messages and it is faster and more all encompassing than emailing. This is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends. I use it to look into what my daughter AND HER FRIENDS are up to since we are all networked to together.
