Do I have to do it?
No, but why wouldn't you want to? You get to play on the computer at work and learn some pretty cool stuff in the process.
Seriously, you don't have to participate. It is completely optional. Do keep in mind, however, that all library staff in the entire state of Arizona are eligible, and the skills you learn might be useful outside of work.
