Hello, my name is Liz Danforth.

Please tell us about yourself...

Why I joined the Baker's Dozen learning program: I'm part of the Pima County library's Emerging Tech team, specializing in gaming in libraries! And because I think all this stuff is fun anyway.

What I want to get out of the program: Improved skills in the areas I'm weak in, and be part of a community of Arizona library folks linked through the Web.

Where I work (include library name and city): Pima County Public Library, Tucson AZ

What I do for my library: whatever I'm asked to do, and occasionally come up with
other crazy ideas like a four-program series of "SF Pros on SF Prose" that brought in record numbers of attendees to an adult program.

Favorite book or author: Unfair question! I can't possibly narrow it down to one or even a few. However, I'd have to say that Tolkien's oeuvre probably had the most influence on my life since I literally had my Helen Keller (cup/water) "learn to read" moment when my mother was reading me "The Hobbit." This warped me ever after, leading me into the demi-monde of science fiction and fantasy where I made my first career.

What else you should know about me: I'm one of twelve hand-picked national "experts"
working with ALA on the "gaming in libraries" two-year $1M Verizon Foundation grant initiative recently unveiled (7/08). I was chosen for my 27 career in the game industry (artist, writer, editor, and game developer) combined with my knowledge of libraries. We are to develop a "best practices toolbox" to help libraries everywhere put together gaming programs responsive to the particular interests of their local communities.
